Basic Visual Sailing rules in a Power Point.  If you need these in a word Doc I will need to build a new Document.

The DryPants Model Yacht Club sails under the 2017-2020 ISAF RACING RULES OF SAILING for ALL Regattas.

By Racing with the Rules;
It keeps the racing fair as well as those who enjoy traveling are practiced in sailing by the rules.

The DPMYC Club Racing is only slightly modified and some basic standard rules that always apply are as follows:

  • We do use the 1 minute rule for starting.
  • We do use the around the end rule for a boat that was over early.
  • No dipping the line at the start.
  • Contact with the turning marks and offset marks is allowed.
  • No contact with the start pins while starting and finishing.
  • All other basic rules of racing apply.

By following the10 basic rules, this will keep you out of trouble for the most part.

Model sailing is fast and pond winds can change directions in a heart beat.
This is not an excuse for a foul.
Practice RULE 9. This rule maintains sanity with the skippers. It avoids the shouting matches that distract the rest of the skippers.
We do not encourage ruthless sailing or using the rules as an offensive plan.
The rules are in place to keep the racing Fair and FUN

Ten Basic R/C Sailing Rules

The Ten Basic Radio Sailing Rules.. as prescribed by Mr. Lester Gilbert, a considerable authority in the specialized world of radio controlled yacht racing.

Ten Racing Rules For Radio Sailing

1. Boat on port tack (wind is from the port side) keeps clear of those on starboard tack.

2. Windward boat keeps clear of leeward boat.

3. Astern boat keeps clear of a boat ahead.

4. Keep clear while tacking or gybing.

5. When you gain right of way, or when you change course, give other boats time to clear.

6. Give room to (all) the inside boat(s) to round the mark.

7. Give room to a boat that needs to avoid an obstruction.

8. Do not barge in at the start.

9. If you have violated a rule, take a penalty; and don’t wait to be called.

10. It is far better to give way and avoid a collision, or take a penalty, than to protest.

The Ten Basic Sailing Rules as prescribed by Hugh Elliot, US Certified Sailing Judge.

Ten Racing Rules And Tacties For Beginers and Old Pros

1. Don’t hit other boats.  Collisions are slow and arguments are slower.

2. Keep out of the way of boats in front of you.

3. Port tack boats usually have to stay out of the way of everyone else.

4. Windward boats must stay away from leeward boats.

5. The inside boat gets to go round the mark first.

6. Don’t hit marks.  They are anchored and very slow.

7. Don’t hit the committee boat.  First, it is a mark (see Rule 6) and second, it makes
em mad.

8. Nothing good ever happens on a layline.

9. The port tack layline is a very ugly place.

10. Control your own destiny: stay out of the Protest Room.  Protest Committees are uncontrollable: with a 100% solid case, you have a 50% chance of being DSQ.
